hugo new site blog

This is my first post on this blog. I’m setting up this space as Ambientia (my employer) decided to start over with our company blog. I’ve written a couple of things there that I think have some lasting value (and are linked to from various places). So at least I’m going to store them here.

It is also my first attempt to run a personal blog. This also gives me a new space experiment with technology. From the get-go, I decided that if I were to have a personal blog, it would not be a Wordpress-powered site, as that’s something I’m already quite familiar with. Initially, I planned to implement the blogging engine completely from the ground up using Spring Boot, but after pondering about it for a while, I figured that it would not be really interesting pedagogically. I would have not learnt much from that experience, as I’m already somewhat familiar with Spring, JPA etc.

Instead, I figured I’d try my hands at something completely new to me. So here it is, this site is completely powered by Hugo, a static site generator written in Go. For a while, I’ve felt that the JAMstack people are onto something. The best way to verify that is to experience it first hand, so here goes.

Be aware that the old posts are provided as-is, and I haven’t edited or updated them since I wrote them. There might be bits that aren’t up to date, but that’s just how it is. I think they still provide some value.
